About META

Maharashtra Engineering Training Academy, Nashik (previously known as Engineering Staff College) is one of the prestigious institutes of Water Resources Department and Public Works Department of Maharashtra Government and was established on 20th May, 1964 to impart training to direct recruits of Maharashtra Service of Engineers Class I and II & also to in service engineers in W.R.D and P.W.D. Its working started on 17-July 1964 and was inaugurated by Hon. Shri. Shankar rao Chavan Minister I & P and B & C Department. Further three regional training centres were established at Chatrapati Sambhajinagar (Formally Aurangabad) in the year 1983, at Nagpur in the year 1983 and at Pune in the year 1984 respectively.

The Regional Training Centres at Chatrapati Sambhajinagar (Formally Aurangabad) and Nagpur are headed by Executive Engineer (Civil) and Regional Training Centre at Pune is headed by Executive Engineer (Mech.) from Water Resources Department. The work of Professional Examination was also allotted to this Institute. In the year 1987 one post of Superintending Engineer from WRD was elevated to Chief Engineer and the whole Institute was brought under his control. In the year 1999 Govt. of Maharashtra, Irrigation Dept. created new post of Director General MERI Nashik and Engineering Staff College, Nashik was brought under his control. In the year 2007, the name of the Engineering Staff College was changed as "MAHARASHTRA ENGINEERING TRAINING ACADEMY" with effect from 08/01/2007.


 

OBJECTIVES :

The Objectives of META are to impart trainings in the areas of engineering and management fields to the in-service engineers to develop the skills for the 21st century. META acts as a bridge between all the concerned departments of Maharashtra state to expertise the engineers.
Main objectives of META are:

  • To impart fundamental training to the University graduates directly recruited to Maharashtra Service Engineers Class-I and II through Maharashtra Public Service Commission so as to supplement their university education with knowledge of rules, procedures and practical working of the two Engineering departments.
  • To train officers promoted from the ranks of Assistant Engineer Gr-II/ Sectional Engineer to gazetted posts.
  • To refresh and update the knowledge of in service Engineers from Junior Engineer to Superintending Engineer in subjects of prime importance viz. soil mechanics, concrete, masonry, administration and management etc. as per the requirement.
  • To conduct the professional examinations for in-service technical officers of WRD and PWD.


TRAINING COURSES CONDUCTED BY META:


The calendar of META for training courses starts from 1st April to 31st March of every year. In general 200 to 225 courses are planned in META and 3 RTC. For Deputy Engineers and above cadres courses are arranged at META Nashik whereas training of Assistant Engr. Grade II, Sectional Engineers and Junior Engineers is conducted in 3 RTC. The categories of training courses are technical, administrative, Management, accounts, computer (e-Jalseva) and courses under State Training Policy.

As per requirements of the field officers, additional workshops such as Quality Control, Right To Information Act, Dam Safety etc are arranged by the Academy at convenient places.

TRAINING PATTERN AND FACILITIES


Training courses includes lectures, presentations through video display, case studies and field visits. For regular training purpose, two lecture halls, two computer lab with audio video facilities are available at META Nashik where as at Nagpur new building is constructed with two lecture halls. Regional Training Centre, is located Chatrapati Sambhajinagar (Formally Aurangabad) and Regional Training Centre, Pune is located in Sangavi, Pune where lecture hall with audio-video facility is available.

i) Free well equipped hostel facility is available at Nashik and Nagpur to the participant. Facility available with WALMI is utilized at Chatrapati Sambhajinagar (Formally Aurangabad) where as at Pune hostel facility facility is not available.

ii) Library having around 5000 technical books. The guest faculty members on the list of META comprises of retired/ in-service officers of the rank of Secretary, Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineers from Water Resources Department and Public Works Department, Private Educational Institutes and also Private consultants are invited.
